The Government of Benue State has announced a major milestone in its ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the region. Governor Hyacinth Alia, speaking during a live interview on Channels Television, confirmed that the number of local government areas (LGAs) under attack has been reduced from 17 to just 3, reflecting what he described as “a huge milestone” in the state’s security operations.
“Seventeen local governments were under attack. We fought it down to nine, then to six, and now to three,” Governor Alia stated. “That’s a huge milestone, and you can only appreciate it if you are within the state or fully understand the gravity of the situation.”
The Governor acknowledged the frustrations of residents but emphasized that the progress made so far is the result of tireless collaboration between state authorities, federal security agencies, and local communities. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while also calling for continued vigilance and cooperation from citizens.
Despite the progress, recent attacks in areas such as Yelewata in Guma LGA have reignited concerns, with reports of casualties and displacement. The Governor condemned the violence and assured residents that additional tactical units and intelligence operations are being deployed to prevent further incidents.
