Former Ondo State First Lady, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has spoken candidly about her late husband, former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s battle with cancer, criticizing reliance on spiritual interventions over medical treatment.

In an exclusive interview with Star News publisher Olumide Akinrinlola, she expressed regret that Akeredolu prioritized faith-based solutions, stating, “If Aketi had listened to me, I wouldn’t be a widow.” She questioned the efficacy of religious rituals, including “mountain climbing, blessed handkerchiefs, water, and olive oil.”

A breast cancer survivor herself, Betty emphasized that cancer is a medical issue, not a spiritual attack. “You cannot pray away breast cancer or any cancer at all,” she asserted, urging Nigerians to seek proper medical care instead of relying on faith healers.

On governance in Ondo State, she described Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration as “rudderless” and criticized the reappointment of a former finance commissioner previously dismissed for financial misconduct under her husband’s tenure.

Regarding President Bola Tinubu’s administration, she remarked, “Only those benefiting would say otherwise. You don’t need a soothsayer to tell you all is not well in the country.”

Betty also reaffirmed her senatorial ambition, stating she remains committed to pursuing her political goals.
