Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, widely known as Evans, the convicted Nigerian kidnap kingpin, has reportedly transformed during his incarceration.
According to his lawyer, Emefo Etudo, Evans achieved A1 grades in all his NECO examinations while in prison and is now a 200-level student at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). This academic pursuit was made possible through a scholarship provided by the Federal Government.
Etudo emphasized Evans’ remorse and reformation, attributing his change to efforts by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and the Federal Government. He stated that Evans has applied for a plea bargain with the Lagos State Government, expressing a desire to serve as an anti-crime ambassador to educate youths about the dangers of criminal activities.
Despite these developments, Evans’ legal battles continue. He was recently re-arraigned on amended charges, including murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping. Both Evans and his co-defendant pleaded not guilty to these charges.
Public reactions to Evans’ reported transformation have been mixed. While some view his academic achievements as a sign of genuine repentance, others remain skeptical, emphasizing the severity of his past crimes.
