Church services at The Potter’s House of Dallas came to an abrupt halt on Sunday when Bishop T.D. Jakes, a renowned pastor and motivational speaker, experienced a health scare mid-sermon.
Jakes, 67, had been passionately speaking about his love for preaching and its uplifting power moments before the incident. “I still love to preach. I ain’t tired of preaching,” he told the congregation. Reflecting on the mutual inspiration preaching offers, he added, “You think you’re giving out something, you’re getting back more than you gave.”
While quoting Psalm 19:14, Jakes suddenly went silent, saying, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, my redeemer, let them go in peace.” Shortly after, he appeared to spasm and stare into the distance while seated.
Concerned attendees quickly rushed to his aid, and a speaker requested prayers from the congregation as medical assistance was provided.
Later that day, an update on the preacher’s official X (formerly Twitter) account reassured followers:
“During today’s service, Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a slight health incident and received immediate medical attention following his powerful hour-long message. He is stable and under the care of medical professionals.”
The statement expressed gratitude for the community’s love and prayers, asking for continued support as Jakes recovers.
