The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police has confirmed a suspected bomb explosion at the Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin area.

Following a distress call from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi, police operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and the Kubwa Area Commander, were dispatched to the scene. The area was immediately cordoned off to ensure residents’ safety and facilitate a thorough investigation.

According to FCT Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh, preliminary investigations revealed that three men from Katsina had visited the school owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, before the explosion.

The incident occurred on the school veranda when two of the men were reportedly tampering with an improvised explosive device (IED). Both men died in the explosion, while a third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries and are receiving treatment under police guard.

“The FCT Police Command regrets to inform the public of a tragic incident involving a suspected bomb explosion that occurred on January 6, 2025, at approximately 11:00 AM at the Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School,” the statement read. “The FCT Bomb Squad has confirmed it was an IED explosion, and remnants of the device have been recovered.”

Mallam Adamu Ashimu, the school’s owner, has been taken into custody for questioning. The police assured that further findings would be shared with the public in due course.

FCT Commissioner of Police CP Olatunji Disu urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or items that might resemble explosive devices.
