BREAKING: Nigeria Withdraws From AFCON Qualifier Against Libya

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has pulled out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya, citing a traumatic experience at Al Abraq International Airport.

The Super Eagles’ chartered plane was diverted to Al Abraq, a small airport, instead of Benghazi Airport, stranding players and officials for 12 hours without assistance from Libyan football authorities.

The NFF described the incident as “dangerous” and “chaotic.” In a statement, they explained:

“The Nigerian delegation landed at Al Abraq Airport 12 hours ago and remains stranded… The chartered ValueJet aircraft was diverted mid-flight, despite the pilot’s approach to Benghazi Airport.”

Due to player fatigue and frustration, the NFF supported their decision to forfeit the match and arranged for their return to Nigeria.

“Players have resolved not to play the match any longer… NFF officials are making plans to fly the team back home.”
