The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointments of the nation’s Defence and Service chiefs. Recall that President Bola Tinubu had on June 19 retired the previous service chiefs and replaced them with new ones.

During plenary on Thursday, the Senate through its Committee of the Whole confirmed the new service chiefs, after a screening exercise that lasted over 3 hours. The confirmation of the appointments comes after President Tinubu wrote to the Senate on Monday, requesting that the Upper Chamber confirm the nomination of the service chiefs.

After the confirmation, the new service chiefs will now be promoted to a higher rank and star.

Chief of Defence Staff: Christopher Musa promoted from a 2-star Major General to a 4-star full General
Chief of Army Staff: Taoreed Lagbaja promoted from a 2-star Major General to a 3-star Lieutenant General
Chief of Air Staff: Hassan Bala Abubakar promoted from a 2-star Air Vice Marshal to a 3-star Air Marshal
Chief of Naval Staff: Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla promoted from a 2-star Rear Admiral to a 3-star Vice Admiral
