Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has revealed why she took a long hiatus from her acting career.
In a recent interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels TV, Wright explained that she stepped away from the movie industry to focus on her children.
According to her, mothers need to be present for their children, which influenced her decision to take a break.
“Well, I decided to diversify into something else for a bit, but Iām back. I didnāt fall out of love with acting, and I havenāt done it all. There are still lots of things Iām looking forward to doing,” she said.
She emphasized the importance of being there for her children, especially at a certain stage in their lives.
“My children called, so I had to take a break. Thereās a time in a womanās life when her children need her more than ever. My children are abroad, so I had to leave everything to take care of them.
“You donāt want to leave your children with just anyone abroad, especially at a certain age. Thatās when they start saying, āYouāre not my mum, you canāt talk to me like that.ā So, itās better to be there yourself,” she added.
Wright also highlighted the sacrifices mothers make, noting that they often have to be present for key moments in their children’s lives, including Omugwo (postpartum care).
She concluded by emphasizing the irreplaceable role of mothers, quoting a Yoruba saying: “Iya ni iya mi, Baba ni baba gbobo aye,” which means, “A mother is a mother, but a father can be a father to many.”
