Burkina Faso etched their name in the record books as the first team to secure a spot in both the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals (2025) and the FIFA U-17 World Cup (2025), courtesy of a thrilling 2-1 victory over Egypt.

The Stallions, who had earlier defeated Cameroon 2-1 in their tournament opener, ensured their passage to the next round with a game to spare, thanks to goals from Issouf Dabo and Asharaf Tabsoba.

Dabo and Tabsoba Strike Gold

After a cautious start, Dabo broke the deadlock in the 41st minute, handing Burkina Faso a well-deserved first-half lead. Despite Egypt’s relentless push for an equalizer after the break, Tabsoba sealed the deal in the 69th minute, further cementing his status as one of the tournament’s top performers.

Egypt’s Belal Ateya pulled one back in the 78th minute, setting up a tense finale. However, Burkina Faso’s resilient backline stood firm, ensuring their progression to the next round with six points from two matches.

What’s Next?

With their quarter-final ticket secured, Burkina Faso will now face South Africa in their final group fixture, aiming to maintain their perfect record. Meanwhile, Egypt must now defeat Cameroon—who sit on one point after a draw with South Africa—to keep their hopes of advancing as one of the best third-placed teams alive.
