The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Togolese football legend, Emmanuel Adebayor, as its latest ambassador.

CAF made the announcement on its social media handles. The appointment confirms the recognition of the expertise and influence of Adebayor in the field of African football.

Adebayor who had a long and memorable football career won the African Player of the Year award in 2008 and led Togo to their first ever FIFA World Cup in 2006. The former Arsenal and Real Madrid star, who announced his retirement last year, leaves behind a legacy of unparalleled dedication and achievement in the game.

The development is part of the recently established CAF Ambassadors Program, aimed at bringing together prominent figures from African football to promote the values and initiatives of the organization.

CAF Ambassadors (football legends, community role models and other popular personalities) will play a crucial role in promoting African football and CAF. Their mission will include participating in activities such as tournaments, charitable initiatives, commercial, and social events, among others.

Last month, African football legends El Hadji Diouf, Asamoah Gyan, Ahmed Hassan, and Augustine ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha were announced as the first ambassadors under the innovative program.
