California Governor Gavin Newsom has sharply criticized President Donald Trump‘s decision to deploy federal troops to Los Angeles amid ongoing immigration protests, labeling Trump a “stone-cold liar” and accusing him of exploiting the situation for political gain.
Newsom’s remarks come in response to Trump’s federalization of the California National Guard and the deployment of 700 U.S. Marines to the city, actions that have been met with widespread condemnation from state officials and civil rights groups.
The protests, sparked by aggressive Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, have led to clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement, resulting in numerous arrests and injuries.
While Trump has portrayed Los Angeles as being “under siege,” local officials argue that the unrest is being exaggerated to justify an overreach of federal power.
