Rev. Fr. Gerald Ohaeri, a Catholic priest and lecturer at the Spiritan School of Philosophy in Nsukka, has been abducted along the Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi expressway in Enugu State.

The kidnapping took place on Saturday evening, November 30, 2024, as Fr. Ohaeri was returning to the Isienu Nsukka parish after attending an event in Enugu.

Reports indicate that the kidnappers, who disguised themselves as police officers, set up a fake checkpoint before seizing the priest and taking him to an unknown location.

During the incident, the kidnappers fired shots at a Hilux vehicle’s windscreen, though the vehicle’s occupants were not taken after the arrival of the deputy governor’s convoy.

A source revealed that it was a passenger in the Hilux who alerted others, shouting that the men posing as police officers were, in fact, kidnappers.
