The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed a chemical explosion at 291 Old Abeokuta Motor Road, opposite Vetland Secondary School in the Agege area of the state. The explosion occurred around 6pm on Friday, injuring at least one person seriously.

Margaret Adeseye, the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday. She stated that the Agege Fire and Rescue team quickly contained the situation after receiving the report.

The fire was caused by an explosion involving various-sized kegs containing unknown chemicals, which were stored in an open, fenced area. The investigation into the ownership and type of chemicals is ongoing. Preliminary findings suggest that heat radiation from sunlight contributed to the explosion due to the chemicals being left unprotected.

The injured woman is receiving treatment for first-degree burns and is reportedly responding well to care, according to the statement.
