The Department of Home Affairs in South Africa has detained Anabela Rungo, the mother of Nigerian model Chidimma Adetshina, in Cape Town. Rungo’s detention comes after her South African documentation was revoked in September 2024 due to fraudulent obtainment.

Rungo allegedly continued to live in South Africa despite being declared “undesirable” and is also being investigated by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation. During the operation, investigators found Adetshina’s underage child living with Rungo.

The Department of Home Affairs is working with the Department of Social Development and the South African Police Service’s Child Protection Unit to ensure the child’s welfare. Rungo will be handed over to the South African Police Service for further investigation.
