Coming to America Actor John Amos Passes Away at 84

John Amos, renowned for iconic roles in “Good Times,” “Roots,” and “Coming to America,” has died. The Emmy-nominated actor passed away peacefully in Los Angeles on August 21, aged 84, due to natural causes.

His son, Kelly Christopher “K.C.” Amos, confirmed the news in a heartfelt statement to PEOPLE:

“It’s with profound sadness that I announce my father’s passing. He had the kindest heart and was loved globally.”

K.C. celebrated his father’s enduring legacy:

“Many consider him their TV father. His impressive body of work in TV and film will continue to inspire. He loved acting throughout his life, recently appearing in Suits LA and our documentary, America’s Dad.”

K.C. fondly remembered his father:

“He was my dad, best friend, and hero. Thank you for your prayers and support during this difficult time.”

John Amos’ remarkable career and warm spirit will be deeply missed.
