The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State, has upheld the death sentence handed to Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, a popular hotel owner, for the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a former Master’s student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

In its judgment delivered on Thursday, the appellate court affirmed the Osun State High Court’s decision, which convicted and sentenced Adedoyin to death. The appeal court had earlier reserved judgment on October 29, 2024.

The court stated, “The judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part. The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death.”

However, the appellate court set aside the order of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel as well as the mandate for educational scholarships to Timothy Adegoke’s children by Adedoyin and others.

Adegoke was found dead in November 2021 at Adedoyin’s Hilton Honours Hotel in Ile-Ife, where he had lodged.
