The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has sentenced Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, to death by hanging. The ruling was delivered after the court found him guilty of culpable homicide in connection with his wife’s tragic death.

The trial was before Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme who held that the prosecution could prove their case beyond every doubt. As determined by the court, Nwachukwu’s action resulted in the direct death of his wife who was renowned gospel artist acknowledged through the song “Ekwueme.

Nwachukwu was arraigned on 23 counts by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, ranging from culpable homicide, criminal intimidation, to cruelty to children and battery by a spouse. The prosecution, during trial, presented 17 witnesses comprising two of the couple’s children and 25 documents as evidence. Four witnesses were led by the defense and four exhibits were led in a bid to counter the allegations.
