Cristiano Ronaldo, Al-Nassr’s striker, burst into tears after losing the King’s Cup on penalties to Al-Hilal.

The match concluded 1-1 after regulation time.

Aleksandar Mitrovic of Al-Hilal raced off to the back post and headed the opener past David Ospina. Just before halftime, Bono made a superb stop to deny Ronaldo, as Al-Nassr’s anger boiled over.

After the restart, referee Dario Herrera showed Ospina the red card, making things worse for them.

Al-Hilal broke their opponents down with a well- executed move, and the former Arsenal goalkeeper then handled the ball outside his area to stop Malcom, who was through on goal.

The game was seemingly out of reach for Luis Castro’s side until Ali Albulayhi was shown his second yellow card of the evening with three minutes to go.

Ayman Yahya levelled the score in the following play passage before the referee gave Kalidou Koulibaly his marching orders.

Al-Hilal had lost both centre-backs in the blink of an eye. Neither side took the opportunity in extra time to seal the game, meaning penalties would decide who lifted the King’s Cup.

Ruben Neves was up first and struck the post with his effort before Alex Telles failed to score.

Mitrovic then made no mistake from the spot, and, of course, Ronaldo scored. Each team scored most of their remaining penalties until Al-Nassr substitute Meshari Al Nember, who had a chance to win extra time, failed to convert.
