Residents of Lagos State in their numbers are purchasing 25kg of rice for a discounted price of N10,000 from the Nigeria Customs Service Zonal Office in Yaba.

The discounted sale of rice follows the Customs’ announcement of the commencement of the distribution of seized food items on the specified day.

In viral videos online, women and men were seen in an orderly scene patiently waiting their turn to receive the rice they had purchased.

The NCS Comptroller General, Adewale Adeniyi, emphasized in a statement to journalists in Lagos that customs officials were explicitly prohibited from participating in the distribution process.

In the distribution of the food items, intended beneficiaries are expected to provide their National Identification Number (NIN). Meanwhile, the Customs also warned that the rice must not be re-sold.
