Davido has revealed the reason behind his father, Adedeji Adeleke’s, decision to intervene in his first professional recording contract. According to the singer, his father bought him out of the 2011 deal with Black Diamond to ensure he retained ownership of his music masters.
The revelation followed a tweet by Davido’s former record label boss, Tosin Ashafa, who shared details about giving Davido his first professional contract and his father’s response to it.
Davido clarified that the incident occurred in 2011, not 2019 as suggested in the tweet.
He explained that his father’s decision was driven by a desire to give him full control over his music career, especially after hearing a snippet of his hit song “Dami Duro.” Ashafa expressed pride in Davido’s success, acknowledging his unstoppable talent.
