Renowned journalist and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for stepping in to halt the sealing of properties in Abuja, including the PDP National Secretariat. The action, initially carried out by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the directive of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, was reportedly due to unpaid ground rents.
Momodu, in a statement, described Tinubu’s intervention as a significant move to check what he termed Wike’s excessive actions. He emphasized that while compliance with government obligations is necessary, governance should not be driven by vindictive motives. He further noted that Tinubu’s decision sends a clear message that Wike is accountable to the presidency and cannot act unilaterally.
The sealing of multiple properties, including banks, filling stations, and government offices, had sparked widespread criticism. Following Tinubu’s directive, affected property owners have been granted a 14-day grace period to settle outstanding debts.
Momodu also urged Tinubu to extend his intervention to Rivers State, where Wike has been engaged in a prolonged political tussle with Governor Sim Fubara. He expressed concerns over the hardship Nigerians are facing and called for leadership that prioritizes stability and economic relief.
