Delta State Wins the 22nd National Sports Festival

Team Delta has once again solidified its dominance in Nigerian sports by emerging as the overall winner of the 22nd National Sports Festival, held in Ogun State. The festival, known as the Gateway Games 2024, concluded with a spectacular closing ceremony at the Moshood Abiola Sports Complex, where Delta was officially crowned champions.

Delta secured a total of 337 medals, including 126 gold, 100 silver, and 111 bronze, maintaining its winning streak for the fifth consecutive time This victory marks Delta’s ninth triumph in the history of the festival, reinforcing its reputation as a powerhouse in Nigerian sports.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori praised the athletes for their dedication and resilience, dedicating the victory to the state’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports excellence through the MORE Agenda He stated, _“This is not just about medals; it’s about building lives and inspiring hope. The MORE Agenda has opened doors for our youths to thrive through sports, and this win is proof of what is possible when leadership meets action.”

The festival also saw Ogun State achieve its best-ever finish, securing 93 gold, 65 silver, and 80 bronze medals, while Bayelsa followed closely in third place with 92 gold, 65 silver, and 80 bronze medals.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, commended Ogun State for hosting a world-class event, emphasizing the unity and strength displayed by all participating athletes
