A wave of raw emotion swept through the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday as Honourable Desmond Elliot, representing Surulere Constituency 1, struggled to contain his tears following the resignation of Honourable Mojisola Meranda as Speaker.

Meranda, the first female Speaker of the Assembly, had just announced her resignation when Elliot, overwhelmed by the moment, attempted to deliver a farewell message in a newly surfaced video. His voice trembled, his words faltered, and after a brief, agonizing pause, he sank back into his seat, visibly shaken and unable to continue.

The emotional scene underscored the deep bond between the two lawmakers, shaped by years of navigating the Assembly’s political landscape together.
