Liverpool delivered a commanding performance at Anfield on Wednesday night, securing a 2-0 victory over reigning champions Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and substitute Cody Gakpo sealed the win for Arne Slot’s side, who maintained their perfect group stage record.

The Reds controlled much of the game and could have taken the lead earlier, but Darwin Núñez was denied by a superb save from Thibaut Courtois. After a goalless first half, Liverpool broke through in the 52nd minute when Mac Allister exchanged passes with Conor Bradley before slotting a low shot into the far corner.

The second half was marked by high drama, with both Kylian Mbappé and Mohamed Salah missing penalties. Mbappé’s effort was saved by Caoimhin Kelleher, while Salah struck the outside of the post in front of the Kop.

Liverpool doubled their advantage in the 76th minute when Gakpo rose to meet Andy Robertson’s cross, heading it powerfully into the far corner. The result leaves Liverpool at the top of the group with a flawless five wins from five matches, while Real Madrid languish in 23rd place, having lost three of their five games.

Next, Liverpool turn their attention to a crucial Premier League showdown against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, while Real Madrid will host Getafe in La Liga.
