DSS and Police Storm Lagos Assembly as Leadership Crisis Deepens

In the early hours of Monday, February 17, 2025, operatives from the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) entered the Lagos State House of Assembly premises in Alausa, Ikeja.

They sealed the offices of the Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, her Deputy, and the Clerk of the House, effectively locking out the current leadership.

This action follows the removal of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, on January 13, 2025, by 32 out of the 40 Assembly members while he was in the United States. Obasa has since challenged his removal in court, seeking reinstatement.

The DSS and NPF’s intervention has intensified the leadership crisis within the Lagos State House of Assembly, raising concerns about the constitutional process and the future direction of the Assembly.
