Two goals from winger Ademola Lookman gave Nigeria’s Super Eagles a comfortable 2-0 win over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the Round of 16 at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Atalanta forward scored one goal in each half to send the Super Eagles to the competition’s quarter-final, where they will face Angola.

Nigeria drew the first blood when defender Semi Ajayi found the back of the net, but saw his goal disallowed for offside following a VAR review.

However, the constant pressing and bullying of the Cameroon defence by Victor Osimhen led to Lookman finding the net in the 36th minute.

Following the goal, the Super Eagles resorted to their trademark defensive prowess shown this tournament already and were impregnable at the back, before Lookman made sure of the victory in the 90th minute in front of 22,085 fans at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

The Super Eagles will now return to the same venue for a quarter-final match next Friday with Angola.

Angola had booked their sport in the quarter-final courtesy of a 3-0 thumping of Nambia.
