The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has affirmed the arrest of social media activist and influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly called VeryDarkMan, over several petitions to the Commission outlining criminal activities.

The activist was arrested in Abuja at the weekend, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said. His arrest is linked to a number of petitions accusing him of cyberstalking, criminal defamation, and other offenses under Nigeria’s penal and cybercrime laws.

The Commission has proceeded on good information and formal complaints made by a series of persons and institutions,” Oyewale stated. “The investigations are still ongoing, and Mr. Otse will be arraigned in court the moment they conclude.

“VeryDarkMan, an online personality with a robust, outspoken voice and a critique of politicians, has himself in the past ruffled online feathers. His arrest elicited mixed responses across digital communities, with his fans calling for openness and a right to due process.
