A court in Equatorial Guinea has ordered the detention of Baltasar Engonga, former Director-General of the National Financial Investigation Agency, who is now held at Malabo’s Black Beach Prison amid a scandal involving alleged extramarital affairs with prominent individuals.

Engonga was reportedly arrested last week, accused of engaging in illicit relationships with the president’s sister and the wives of other high-ranking officials. The scandal unraveled during a fraud investigation when anti-corruption agents conducted a search of his home and office, uncovering several CDs that allegedly contained footage of his interactions with married women, including the wife of the Director-General of Police and the spouses of over 20 ministry officials.

Following these revelations, Engonga was dismissed from his position and replaced by Zenón Obiang Obiang Avomo. The investigation into Engonga’s alleged corruption and personal scandals has attracted significant attention, with local media outlet Ahora EG reporting on the case and Dubawa confirming his detention on corruption charges.
