Nasir Ali, son of former PDP National Chairman Ahmadu Ali, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison by a Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja for his role in a N2.2 billion oil subsidy fraud. Also sentenced was his co-defendant, Christian Taylor, a Sierra Leonean national.
Justice Mojisola Dada delivered the verdict on Tuesday, convicting both men and their company, Nasaman Oil Services Limited, on a revised 57-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Originally arraigned in 2012 on a 49-count charge, the defendants faced allegations of conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, forgery, and using false documents — all in violation of the Advance Fee Fraud Act of 2006 and the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2011.
According to EFCC prosecutor Seiduh Atteh, the convicts fraudulently obtained N2.2 billion from the Federal Government under the fuel subsidy programme on September 9, 2011. They allegedly submitted forged documents, including a falsified “Gasoline Analysis” report for the vessel MT Overseas Limar, to support their claims.
In her judgment, Justice Dada stated that the prosecution had presented compelling evidence. She noted that the fraud undermined not only government finances but also public trust in the fuel subsidy scheme. Beyond the prison terms, the court also ordered the forfeiture of all assets and bank accounts linked to the scam. Additionally, arrest warrants were issued for two accomplices still at large — Oluwaseun Ogunbambo and Olabisi Abdul Afeez.
