Explainer: Facts about Apple’s new Product, iPhone 15

Multi-national technology company, Apple, will today unveil its latest product, iPhone 15. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. Pacific time (6pm Nigerian time) at the Apple Park in California, the United States of America.

Although the event is still some hours away, Apple has launched its YouTube video countdown and interested persons can sign up here to watch the launching ceremony, which can also be viewed on apple.com and the Apple TV app.

Ahead of the unveiling, here are some facts you need to know:

1.  The new product is coming in different variants: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

2. Size – The iPhone 15 Pro’s new titanium chassis will result in a 10% weight reduction, with iPhone 15 Pro to weigh at 185g, down from 206g. The iPhone 15 Pro Max would clock in at 216g, down from 240g.

3. Design — It has been revealed that the iPhone Pro’s titanium chassis will have a brushed finish to reduce fingerprints, and smooth, rounded corners to replace the hard edges of their predecessors. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max displays also look noticeably larger due to a one-third reduction in their bezel sizes. All iPhone 15 models will have a more repairable design.

4. Battery Life & Charging – The iPhone 15 Pro’s A17 Bionic chip will deliver more battery life than the 23-29 hours offered by the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, respectively. Wireless charging will also be faster for all iPhone 15 models.

5. Cameras – For the first time, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will have telephoto (zoom) and ultra-wide cameras with more than 12 megapixels. The Pro Max’s exclusive periscopic zoom lens will deliver up to 6x optical zoom.

6. Price- Leaked reports have suggested the pricing of the new iPhone products, which is published below.

  • iPhone 15: starting from $799 (unchanged)
  • iPhone 15 Plus: starting from $899 (unchanged)
  • iPhone 15 Pro: starting from $1,099 ($100 increase)
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max: starting from $1,299 ($200 increase)
