Rivers State is on high alert after suspected arsonists detonated explosives at the All Progressives Congress (APC) state secretariat in Port Harcourt on Saturday morning, just hours before local government elections.
The blast damaged the main gate, security post, and a nearby building. APC caretaker committee chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, attributed the attack to supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Notably, the APC had previously announced its boycott of the elections. In a surprise move, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also opted out.
The incident has escalated tensions and raised concerns about election security and potential violence. Authorities are urged to investigate and ensure public safety.
