The Federal Government is calling on Nigerians living abroad to return home and contribute their skills and experience to the country’s development.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), made this appeal, emphasizing the crucial role diaspora engagement plays in tackling socio-economic challenges.

“No foreigner will leave their country to help develop another,” Dabiri-Erewa stressed, highlighting the need for Nigerians to take ownership of their country’s progress.

The government’s appeal comes as some Nigerians have already returned home, citing reasons such as cultural and racial issues, family ties, and personal growth.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has reported significant remittances from abroad, with a 20.3% increase in the first quarter of 2022. This underscores the potential for diaspora engagement to drive economic growth.

The government’s call to action encourages Nigerians abroad to:

– Bring back their skills and experience

– Contribute to national development

– Take ownership of Nigeria’s progress

By returning home, Nigerians can play a vital role in shaping the country’s future.
