Feyenoord Appoint Van Persie as New Head Coach

Robin van Persie has been appointed as the new manager of Feyenoord after leaving Heerenveen with immediate effect.

The 41-year-old former Premier League star took charge of Heerenveen at the start of the season but has now stepped down to lead the Dutch giants at De Kuip. Feyenoord successfully negotiated his release, having initially feared they would have to wait until summer to secure his services. The club confirmed he will begin his role on Monday.

“Everyone knows how special my bond with Feyenoord is,” Van Persie said. “I am really looking forward to working with the group of players on 1908, together with a strong staff, and then playing matches in De Kuip, supported by the legion, and achieving success together.”

Feyenoord will face either Arsenal or Inter Milan in the last 16 of the Champions League, setting up a potential reunion for Van Persie with his former club at the Emirates.

Former Manchester United assistant coach Rene Hake, who departed alongside Erik ten Hag in November, has been appointed as one of Van Persie’s assistants.
