The National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) has provided assurances to the family of Pa Michael Taiwo, the esteemed designer of the Nigerian national flag, that a befitting burial will be accorded to him.

Biodun Ajiboye, NICO’s Executive Secretary, stated that President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, have expressed deep concern regarding the situation and have instructed NICO to provide assistance to the family in making the necessary burial arrangements.

Ajiboye stressed that it is an integral part of Nigerian culture to honor and show respect to its heroes, and the government cannot neglect Pa Akinkunmi, who has made significant contributions to the country’s heritage.

NICO has taken the initiative to coordinate and collaborate with other relevant agencies to ensure a dignified burial for the late national hero.

This decision follows social media reports that highlighted the apparent neglect of Pa Akinkunmi’s burial arrangements.

NICO’s intervention aims to uphold Nigerian culture and traditions, which place a high value on respect for the deceased and honor for its heroes.

The government’s assistance ensures that Pa Akinkunmi will receive a fitting farewell, acknowledging his significant contribution to Nigeria’s identity.
