FIFA President Gianni Infantino has extended congratulations to Donald Trump on his anticipated return as U.S. President. Trump has claimed victory and appears poised to defeat his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris.
The 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will bring the iconic Jules Rimet trophy back to North America for the first time since 1994.
Infantino, who met with Trump several times during his first presidency to discuss the World Cup and other initiatives, also supported opening FIFA’s U.S. headquarters in 2023.
“Congratulations, Mr. President!” Infantino wrote on Instagram Wednesday morning. “We will have a great FIFA World Cup and a great FIFA Club World Cup in the United States of America! Football Unites the World!”
