Finally, South-West gets Appropriations Chair in Nigerian Senate, as Yayi cliches role

The federal lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Solomon Olalekan Adeola popularly known as Yayi has been named as the Chairman of the Senate committee on Appropriations- the first time the South-West zone will get the position in over 10 years.

The powerful Appropriations Committee supervises and oversee the entire budgetary process in the Senate, from scrutinizing the financial requests of government ministries, departments and agencies to appropriating the final amount of monies allocated to each unit in the federal government, and also enforcing the implementation of the federal budget as passed by the National Assembly.

Senator Adeola, who has been a long-time loyalist of President Bola Tinubu was named as Appropriations Chair during plenary on Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, who read out the names of chairmen and deputy chairmen of 8 standing committees of the Nigerian Senate.

  • National Security and Intelligence — Shehu Buba Umar (chairman), Asuquo Ekpenyong (deputy)
  • Legislative Compliance — Garba Musa Maidoki (chairman), Ede Dafinone (deputy)
  • Media — Adeyemi Adaramodu (chairman), Salisu Shuaibu Afolabi (deputy)
