The Ikeja High Court in Lagos State has ruled to remand former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Godwin Emefiele in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) pending further proceedings.

Emefiele’s remand, along with his co-defendant Henry Omoile, was ordered by Justice Rahman Oshodi, who scheduled the next hearing for Thursday, April 11, when a decision on bail will be made.

The court’s decision came after hearing bail applications presented by their legal representative, AbdulHakeem Labi-Lawal.

While seeking bail for Emefiele, the defense counsel urged the court to grant him bail on self-recognizance or under liberal terms until the case’s conclusion. Similar requests were made for the second defendant.

The EFCC’s counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Rotimi Oyedepo, did not oppose the bail requests, instead advising the court to exercise discretion in its decision-making.
