Former Delta State Deputy Governor, Professor Amos Utuama, Passes Away

Professor Amos Utuama, former Deputy Governor of Delta State, has passed away.

Reports indicate that the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) died early Saturday morning in Lagos. Born on June 5, 1947, Utuama served as deputy governor to Emmanuel Uduaghan for two terms, representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Before becoming deputy governor, he was the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of Delta State under former Governor James Ibori’s administration.

The family has yet to make an official announcement about his passing. Utuama, a respected legal scholar, taught at the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos before entering politics.

He hailed from Otughievwen (Otu-Jeremi) town in the Ughievwen Kingdom of Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State. After the loss of his wife, Dr. Nelly Utuama, he experienced a decline in health, frequently requiring hospital care.
