Former Miss Nigeria And Delta State First Lady Edna Ibru Passes Away At 80

Mrs. Edna Ibru, a former Miss Nigeria and wife of the late Olorogun Felix Ibru, the first executive governor of Delta State, has passed away in London after a brief illness. She died on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the age of 81.

The news was announced by her son, Dr. Paul Aidido Ibru, in a heartfelt statement released on Saturday. Describing her as a loving and compassionate person, he expressed the family’s shock and grief at her passing.

“Our amazing mother passed into glory on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after a brief illness. She was full of life, and we never expected her to leave us so soon, but we cannot question the will of God in her precious life,” the statement read.

He further highlighted her vibrant personality, saying, “She was a lover of people, a mediator, a mother to many, outrageously humorous, deeply caring, down-to-earth, and full of stories. We will miss her very dearly.”

Mrs. Ibru was a distinguished public figure who made history as the first Nigerian and African representative at the Miss Universe pageant after winning the Miss Nigeria crown in 1964. She later served as the First Lady of Delta State during her husband’s tenure as governor. The couple had two children, Paul and Sheri Felix Ibru.
