Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former presidential aide and seasoned political figure, has passed away at the age of 72. His death was confirmed on March 7, 2025.

Okupe, who served as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan, was also the Director-General of Peter Obi’s 2023 Presidential Campaign. He played a key role in Nigerian politics for decades, working across different administrations.

He had been battling health issues for years, including prostate cancer diagnosed 16 years ago and sarcoma in his right shoulder. Despite his health struggles, he remained politically active, resigning from the Labour Party in January 2024.

His passing marks the end of an era for a figure who was deeply involved in Nigeria’s political landscape.
