A driver and three of his passengers have sustained injuries after their vehicle plunged into the Lagos lagoon, with the incident happening around Costain Roundabout inward Eko Bridge.

The vehicle, a Toyota Avalon car, was said to have had a brake failure while moving at top speed.

Reports say other road users rushed to their rescue, evacuated them from the vehicle, and rushed them to the hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said responders to the accident scene were told the occupants of the vehicle were receiving treatment at the hospital.

He said: “At the time of the operation, the response team did not see the driver nor any occupant of the car. They were receiving treatment in a nearby private hospital.

“The agency’s heavy-duty equipment, Hiab, was immediately deployed for recovery of the car off the canal. The recovered car was subsequently handed over to Nigeria Police, Iponri Division, for further investigation. The operation has been concluded.”
