A mild drama unfolded at the Edo State House of Assembly when Governor Monday Okpebholo struggled to articulate the figures for the state’s 2025 budget during his presentation.
A video capturing the governor repeatedly stuttering while attempting to pronounce the N605 billion budget estimate has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread reactions across the country.
On Tuesday, Governor Okpebholo presented the proposed 2025 budget, titled Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo, which represents a 25% increase over the 2024 fiscal budget. Despite the noticeable pause, the governor managed to proceed with his speech.
He revealed that 37% of the total budget, amounting to N223 billion, would be allocated to recurrent expenditure, while 63%, or N381 billion, would go toward capital projects.
“This budget is a product of extensive consultations and embodies my administration’s commitment to achieving its five-point agenda: security, infrastructural development, healthcare, food sufficiency, and education,” Okpebholo stated.
Highlighting major initiatives, the governor announced that N162 billion would be earmarked for road infrastructure.
