On Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, Lagos Island witnessed a vibrant celebration as the Lagos Fanti Carnival returned to honor Afro-Brazilian heritage and the city’s rich cultural tapestry. The event, deeply rooted in tradition since 1890, featured a dynamic fusion of music, dance, and fashion, drawing over 10,000 attendees and captivating more than 50,000 online viewers .​

Among the highlights was an unexpected yet electrifying performance by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who joined renowned DJ Spinall on stage. The duo delivered an unforgettable set that energized the crowd and underscored the carnival’s theme of unity and cultural pride.​

The Lagos Fanti Carnival, supported by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture in partnership with the Brazilian Descendants Association, continues to serve as a testament to the city’s commitment to celebrating its diverse heritage and fostering community spirit.
