The Borno State Government has announced an immediate ban on the sale of petrol in Bama Local Government Area, including Bama town and the border community of Banki, in response to mounting security threats in the region.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum made the directive following intelligence reports indicating that petroleum products were being diverted to aid insurgent activities within the area. The measure is part of a broader strategy aimed at disrupting the logistics and operational networks of non-state armed groups threatening peace and stability in Borno State.

“This action has become necessary to safeguard lives and property and to deny criminal elements access to essential supplies that could be used to perpetrate violence,” the Governor said. “We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but it is a necessary step in our ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace in Bama and surrounding communities.”

The ban is to be enforced in collaboration with security agencies and local authorities. The state government has also initiated plans to provide regulated fuel access for verified humanitarian operations and essential services to mitigate the impact on civilians.
