Hamas issued a statement following Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, urging him to fulfill his pledge to end the war in Gaza.

The group called on Trump’s incoming administration to “work seriously to stop the war” and reportedly referenced his prior request to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to conclude the conflict before Trump’s anticipated inauguration on January 20, according to Fox News.

“In light of the initial results showing Donald Trump winning in the US presidential election,” Hamas stated that he should “listen to the voices raised by the U.S. public for over a year regarding Zionist aggression on the Gaza Strip.”

The group further demanded that the new administration “halt the war of genocide and aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank,” end support for actions against “the brotherly Lebanese people,” cease military and political backing for Israel, and acknowledge Palestinian rights.

Hamas also stated that Palestinians would “continue to resist the Zionist occupation” and would not compromise on their rights to independence, self-determination, and an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

These sentiments were echoed by Hamas Political Bureau spokesperson Basem Naim, who told Newsweek, “The election of Trump as the 47th president of the USA is a private matter for the Americans.”
