History Made: Air Peace’s Maiden Direct Lagos-UK Flight Touches Down at Gatwick

A historic moment unfolded on Saturday, March 30, 2024, as Nigerian airline Air Peace made its inaugural flight from Lagos to the United Kingdom and landed at Gatwick Airport in London, marking a significant milestone in Nigerian aviation.

The event heralded the launch of direct flight services by an indigenous airline from Nigeria to a European country for the first time in decades.

Taking off from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at 12:10 am, the luxurious Boeing 777 aircraft made its journey across the Atlantic and touched down in London a few hours later.

This achievement came to fruition a month after Air Peace announced its plans to commence direct flight operations to London during a pre-launch forum held in February.

Air Peace took to its social media platforms, sharing a video capturing the aircraft’s graceful touchdown at Gatwick Airport, expressing immense delight at the accomplishment.

“With the departure of our wide-body, luxury Boeing 777 earlier today en route to London Gatwick…

“Our London service has officially commenced, and we are thrilled to have reached yet another milestone in our mission to provide seamless connectivity between cities.

“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of this launch,” read the caption accompanying the video.

In an earlier announcement, Air Peace described the event as another remarkable achievement in its journey as a leading airline, expanding its international footprint to seven destinations.

“This marks our entry into the European continent and underscores our commitment to connecting cities,” Air Peace stated.
