In a deeply emotional and candid interview with Nigerian media personality Chude Jideonwo, actress and model Beverly Osu bared her soul as she revisited the difficult chapters of her childhood — particularly her strained and complex relationship with her father.

With raw vulnerability, Beverly shared the painful moments that shaped her upbringing, reflecting on a father she once believed in, but who repeatedly let her down.

“I believed in my dad.
And he just never came.
He came to my new school and brought apples.
But my mum already left an instruction that
no person should bring stuff for me.
And this is the apples.
I was so mad at my mum.
I never, I didn’t forgive my mum for that for the longest time.
Like, what?
So the teachers will be feeling like I’m from a brokered home
and all this so my father cannot give me apples.
But dad has his own problems too.
He’s so egocentric.
And then he showed up again in my uni years.
I think he just showed up to use me to brag.
I don’t know how to explain it.
That’s how I felt.”

In recounting an encounter during her university years, Beverly revealed how a simple moment turned sour — a pattern she had become familiar with.

“My brothers needed money.
And I was the last best to go ask my dad.
And I went to his house and his friends were there.
And I was using a BlackBerry Stone.
And my dad was just dusting the matter away
and saying, oh, look at my daughter.
Look at the phone she’s using.
And in front of his friends, he said,
don’t you think this phone is too big for you?
That he was going to give me one other phone…
I’m like, really? Dad, are you serious right now?”

One of the most heartbreaking parts of her story came when she recalled her father’s reaction after her return from Big Brother Africa — a moment that, instead of being filled with pride or reconciliation, felt like yet another emotional withdrawal.

“I came back from Big Brother
and he was the first phone call I received
as I put on my phone on the plane.
And he said, and now you have to call us and start taking care of me.
Literally, he said those words to me…
I’m like, okay, daddy, I’ll call you back…
I was still in the dilemma of I’m coming back to this country
and the insurance hates me. Oh my goodness, nobody loves me.
Then the only person I’m seeing you’re calling…
and this is the first thing you say. I’m like, wow. Reality.”

Despite all the hurt, Beverly said she has chosen to forgive her father. But even in death, the emotional distance remains palpable.

“Yeah, I mean, I didn’t cry when he died.
I buried him nicely, but I’ve forgiven him.”

When Chude gently asked why she didn’t cry, her answer was a window into years of silent grief and unresolved longing.

“I don’t know.
Maybe I’m still in denial that he’s dead
because he was really around me and never came around me.
So I just, you put that. No, he might be somewhere around.
So the fact that he was distanced but still present,
it’s almost like there’s no difference in the feeling.
Yeah.
And it’s not like we call each other every other day.
Sometimes it’s like when everybody’s celebrating Father’s Day,
I’m like, oh, oh, yeah, I do have a dad, I.
So sad.
I could have done so many things with him. But.”

Beverly’s story is one of resilience, quiet strength, and the complicated ways love, pain, and forgiveness can coexist. Her bravery in telling her truth is a reminder that healing often begins with honesty — no matter how uncomfortable.
