The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered that no police operative should carry assault rifles while dressed in civilian attire (mufti).

He also issued a stern warning against human rights violations, stressing that such misconduct would not be tolerated.

Speaking during a virtual meeting with strategic police managers, Egbetokun condemned these acts, citing numerous complaints received through the Force’s complaint channels.

Force PRO Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, said the meeting aimed to reinforce ethical and professional conduct within the Nigeria Police Force.

“The IGP states that any conduct violating human rights will not be tolerated and will be met with severe consequences,” the statement read.

Egbetokun also cautioned tactical squads against the misuse of power and improper dressing, emphasizing strict adherence to standard operating procedures and approved uniforms.

Additionally, he prohibited the indiscriminate transfer of cases without his written approval, warning that such actions delay justice and burden the parties involved.

He urged all officers to work together to uphold the integrity of the Force and prevent any acts that could tarnish its reputation.
