Ilkay Gundogan Returns to Manchester City on Free Transfer

Manchester City has secured the surprise return of midfielder Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer from FC Barcelona.

The 33-year-old German international is set to sign a one-year contract with the option of an additional year, marking his second spell at the Etihad Stadium.

Gundogan previously spent seven successful seasons with Manchester City, making 304 appearances, scoring 60 goals, and winning 14 trophies, including a historic treble in his final season.

He rejoins the club after a brief stint with FC Barcelona, where he played 51 times last season.

The midfielder’s return addresses Manchester City’s need for midfield reinforcement this summer, following the arrival of Savinho from ES Troyes.

Gundogan’s experience and leadership will be valuable assets to Pep Guardiola’s side, as they seek to build on their recent successes.

This transfer marks a dramatic late twist in the transfer window, with Manchester City capitalizing on FC Barcelona’s financial constraints to bring back a familiar face.

Ikay Gundogan’s return is set to be a significant boost to the club’s ambitions for the upcoming season.
