Ipswich Town secured a triumphant return to the Premier League for the first time in 21 years, defeating relegated Huddersfield 2-0 at a jubilant Portman Road.

Wales international Wes Burns scored the opener in the first half, and Omari Hutchinson doubled the lead with a stunning shot from the edge of the box early in the second half.

With only a point needed to guarantee promotion, Kieran McKenna’s side dominated the game, pouring pressure on the Huddersfield goal.

This victory marked Ipswich’s return to the top flight, finishing the season with 96 points, just one shy of champions Leicester.

They become the first team since Southampton in 2011-12 to achieve consecutive promotions from the third tier to the first.

McKenna joins an elite group of Ipswich managers who have secured promotion to the top flight, including Alf Ramsey, Bill McGarry, John Lyall, and George Burley.

The win was a testament to McKenna’s strategic squad upgrades, achieved with a modest budget compared to promotion rivals backed by Premier League parachute funds.

The electric atmosphere at kick-off was fueled by the prospect of facing top-tier teams like Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool next season.

Ipswich dictated the pace, with Hutchinson and Conor Chaplin threatening early on.

Burns eventually broke the deadlock, and Hutchinson’s second-half goal sealed the win.

This historic promotion marks a new chapter for Ipswich Town, and their fans eagerly anticipate the challenges and thrills of the Premier League.
